WebAug 27, 2024 · I use Ultimate washes these days, but they are very similar to Flory. They are water based and I believe they are some sort of clay in suspension. Like Barry says, they are difficult to remove from Matt finishes- I usually do a coat of Future or Klear before brushing it on. They work really well, though, and pick out even the smallest detail. WebFlory clay washes are good, but in general (and as you found) acrylic as a wash doesn't work as they dry splotchy and don't flow like enamels/oils, plus they dry quickly so there's little time for working or blending them. This is why almost everyone uses oil washes. It's a technique based on the properties of these paints.
